May  2005 - General Annual Meeting

Historic Prospect Park-Monceaux HOA

May 4, 2005 General Meeting

6:30 p.m.

Meeting called to order by Marion Holloway, President.

Lila Young, Beautification Chair reported on the following:

Welcomed new Board Member Russell Glace and Ted Ward.

Acknowledged Isabel Ward, daughter of Ted and Emily, who won first prize in an essay contest on “Good Citizenship.”  We’re hopeful Isabel will keep us up to date on kids happenings and stories throughout the neighborhood so that it can be reported in the Newsletter.

Besides our Tag Sale on Saturday, May 7, the Mounts Botanical Connoisseurs Garden Tour is Saturday and Sunday, May 7 and 8.  Leslie Linder’s garden will be on the tour plus Tom the Mailman took a great shot of her garden that is on the front cover of the Tour’s Brochure.

Photographs of the tree raising in Westminster Park were passed around.

Condolences were sent to Wayne Young’s family on Marlborough to acknowledge his sudden passing.

On a brighter side, announcements were made of two recent births to two families in the neighborhood.

The book on Lila Vanderbilt Webbs “Miradero” was shown to those interested in the old history of a wonderful Spanish home in Gulfstream that was built by Lila Vanderbilt.  The Palm Beach Historical Society hosted a book signing and lecture by the author, Robert W. Ganger, and the book is available through the Historical Society.

Thanks for all her hard work on the Newsletter were given to Sylvia Watt along with a photograph of her blond, 4-legged bombshell, Abbie.

Pat Byrnes reported that maps have been printed and are ready to go to Tag Sale participants for distribution to “shoppers”.

Marion reported that the Airport Noise Committee reports the Airport Commission is taking no action at this time that would have a direct impact on noise in our area.

Guest Speaker Commissioner Kimberly Mitchell elaborated on the street, sidewalk and curb analysis and proposed starts to repair difference places throughout the City on a “worst first” basis.

She spoke about working successfully with Marion regarding the Wenonah Place – Goodwill project being considered.  The two neighborhood Presidents south of us are also working in conjunction with this project in order to keep it “within reason” both height and density wise.

Commissioner Mitchell spoke of her hopes of a tennis court and pool to be added to the WPB Golf Course.

She also mentioned the Marathon of the Palm Beaches December 4, 2005.

She spoke of her votes on the Commission and how she wants to see monies come back to the neighborhoods and not all going for downtown projects.

She asked Ken Reardon to speak to us on our City water and the Monceaux tree and traffic calming along with work on streets, sidewalks and curbs throughout the City.

Commissioner Mitchell had our COP Officer report on recent burglaries.  The suspects involved with the little white Honda have been arrested.

Marion announced that Frederica Minter is the new Historic Commission Chairwoman and that she will be at our June Board meeting.

Under new business, there was a brief discussion on the gates proposed by Ron Byrnes for the neighborhood entryways that Ron had forwarded to Kimberly.  She suggested a meeting with the Planning Board.

A new City Neighborhood Liaison has been hired by the City and will be taking care of Tamarind Avenue out to the western communities.

Lila passed out the City liaison list of names and numbers that she had copied for residents to use when trying to reach City personnel.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45 by Marion Holloway.
