Subject: car
Update- On Sunday Ted and I left the house
in both cars around 1:00-1:15 pm. We were gone all day. I returned home
with my 5 year old at approximately 6:45 p.m. When I drove in front of
our home I noticed a ladder from the back of our house was leaning up
against the front entry way. I proceeded to pull in the driveway and
found a small red car parked in the middle of the swing set in the
backyard.
I backed out of the driveway and drove around
the block while calling 911. I was absolutely shocked that 911 had no
idea where I lived, the location of Prospect Park, was it in WPB or RPB
etc. I literally had to give them street directions to the house. I
asked them to hurry as I did not know if there was an intruder in my
home. I then called Ted who was in Palm Beach. I parked my car at a
neighbors and took my child inside their home while waiting for the police
to arrive at my home. Well, Ted arrived home from PB before the police
got here. He went in the house and did not find that the house had been
broken into. The police arrived in a very casual manner and did not
consider this to be an emergency. In order for a 911 call to be an
emergency "the intruder must be in the home with you!" It took approx 15
minutes for the police to arrive.
Anyway, it turns out the car was dumped in our
backyard. It was registered from central Florida. A neighbor saw a tall
white male in our front yard with the ladder and assumed it was a
workman. This was in BROAD DAY LIGHT!
The officer called his Sergeant and the
Sergeant arrived to inform Ted that the call came in the middle of shift
change, it was not considered an emergency. They sent an officer from the
station downtown. Interestingly enough the officer arrived from the south
side on Washington Road. Apparently he was not familiar with the area
either.
Ted explained to the Sergeant the problems we
have had in the past getting police here in the middle of the night to
address the park situation, and they don't show up or tell us it is not a
priority call.
This is the icing on the cake. To have tires
slashed on Ted's truck on Tuesday and the situation on Sunday has
certainly confirmed for us that our neighborhood is not safe. Ted and I
are disgusted with the lackluster attitude of the police department. We
believe that we are not being served in our neighborhood as other
neighborhoods are receiving services from the police department. It is an
outrage that when you call 911 for help it is not an emergency unless you
are with the "bad guy". It is unbelievable that I had to give 911
directions to our home.
It is unconceivable to me that the officer did
not arrive with sirens and lights to alert the neighbors of a potential
problem or at least to show he was in a hurry!
This has also upset my children. They are
frightened of our neighborhood. What if I had parked on the street,
entered my home with Teddy and someone was in the house. Do you suppose
they would have allowed me to call for help?
This situation is out of control and we must
somehow as a neighborhood let the Mayor, City Commissioners, and Chief of
Police know that we are demanding the safety of our homes and neighbors.
Perhaps a group should attend the next City Commission meeting to
verbalize our concern. Perhaps the Post Times should be informed. We
must do something or the next time someone may walk into a bad situation
and get hurt.
On Saturday night another vehicle (new VW) was taken from a home in El Cid.
House was entered and keys taken. Fortunately, home owner did not wake up.
Police are following some good leads. Evidently they also got credit cards
which were used.
Please make sure to lock up and if you have an alarm, USE IT!
Last evening a neighbor on Sunset noticed a van parked on the street. She
called the Police because her husband said you better call because Lila
tells us to report suspicious activity. When the Police arrived they
discovered the van was one of 2 vehicles stolen from Plymouth Rd. the other
night. It must have been driven to El Cid where the "bad guys" saw a Land
Rover on Medina Way. They went into the home, found the car keys and took a
purse as well as the car and were using the credit cards at 4 this morning.
People in the house have a large dog. Grandparents were there with the
children. Parents not at home.
Make certain you lock up, don't leave wallets and keys where they are easily
grabbed and report anything out of the ordinary. Obviously there is a bad
rash of things going on right now and we all need to look out for each other
as well as ourselves.
Hopefully the Police with pick up a lead on this and someone will be caught!
Crime update: Member of El Cid's Board reported that someone broke into a
neighbor's garage, saw the keys were in the Ford. They couldn't get the
Lexus but drove her Black Ford Expedition right out of the garage - car is
still missing.
Also heard that last night a home on Plymouth Rd was broken into. Keys to
both cars were found and both cars were taken.

A
house on Aravale was broken into sometime last night. Several thousand
dollars worth of tools and electrical equipment was taken.

Be
on the lookout for a 1980 Buick Regal, Maroon in color with tinted windows.
It is believed to be occupied by 2 males. This may have been involved in
the Almeria Road incident. Perhaps it is related to the Vincent & Greenwood
incident as well.
Two
homes in El Cid were broken into Monday. One on Almeria where cash was
taken. Crime Scene Officers were able to get prints. Another break-in
occurred on Valencia - I have no information on what might have been taken.
As reported at the General Meeting on May 4, the suspect Honda vehicle has
been located and several arrests have been made.
Lock up and keep safe!

Crime
Report
Nancy Harrison on Washington Road reported that a boat at their dock was
broken into. Some very expensive fishing equipment along with a stereo was
taken. It is not known when this occurred. The West Palm Beach Police
Department has been notified and will make a report.
Lila Young reports that the WPB Police Department is being bombarded with
calls concerning cars being entered - not broken into, but cars that are
left unlocked! It seems that small change is being taken - nothing of
great value. To save yourself some aggravation make certain to lock your
car doors!

Subject: street incident today
Today our counter installers were working in the yard. Had saws and saw
horses set up. While they entered the house at around 3:00 p.m., a Hispanic
man stole a saw. One of the guys saw him and took off after him. Recovered
the saw and the Hispanic turned to offer him a solid gold pen he had just
"found."
I called the police and they came immediately. Sergio had a very good
description of the perp. The police then went in search of the perp.
Med build and height, tan work shirt and blue work pants, slight
mustache. Suspicious behavior when caught.
I do not have the list, but it would be worth sending to alert the work
crews that are quite prevalent in our neighborhood right now. There are a
number of us having work done and our contractors are constantly going in
and out of our homes. We may trust our workers, but today shows that others
are preying upon our openness.

Over
the past weekend, a house was burglarized in the El Cid neighborhood. Lots
of jewelry was taken.
Just a reminder to residents: This is the time of year when we should all
be especially careful. Make sure doors are locked, even if you are going to
be out for just a few minutes. If you have an alarm system - use it.
Have a safe and happy holiday season!

A
bit of bad news to report: The Luttier's house on Flagler in El Cid was
burglarized while they were out last evening. Bad guys used a crow bar to
break in French doors. Basically took jewelry and cash - even took the
boys' Scout money which was in a drawer.
Also 240 Sunset was broken into by removing a hurricane shutter. Front door
handle was knocked loose in the attempt to get in. I called owners in
Boston. They'll have to check to see what was taken when they return.
Wish I had better news. Just lock up and use your alarm.

Early
this AM (2:30) the police came to our door, they found someone in the alley
with a set of socket wrenches "found in a dumpster". The officers knew we
have a lot of tools and were nice enough to check to see if they were ours,
fortunately they were not. Just another day in the lives of thieves, we
must be certain all of our tools, cars etc. are locked at all times and then
be on the lookout for strangers in our neighborhood any time of day.

Unfortunately I have a crime to report. A few years ago I had 2 of 4 round
concrete antique cherub pots out on our Washington Road concrete posts. One
rainy evening 2 of those pots were stolen along with some neighbor's
concrete fruit baskets and some outside statuary that was at Reward Lighting
on Southern Blvd. Officer Freddy Naranjo responded back then and said to
secure those last 2 pots and put a chain across the driveway which we did.
Detective Chip Woods and I searched for the pots but never found them. Last
evening someone took steel bolt cable cutters and cut through our steel
cable that we had securing the pots and got 1 pot. They tried cutting the
2nd pot loose but couldn't get it. They tried several cuts.
I'm telling you all this so you too do the very best you can securing your
outside yard items. I feel I did all I really could have done. There is a
street light right near them also and we had heavy duty cable and locks.
Officer Paladino was great in responding quickly and I did want to tell you
I'm offering a $200 reward to anyone who sees the pot anywhere and phones me
and I get it back. They are sentimental to us so if you should see an old
round concrete pot with raised cherubs circling the pot with a crest on it,
please phone me at 371-3375 and we will gladly give you the reward if it's
my pot.
I also want to tell everyone to make sure you use your house locks as last
week someone tried to get into a home by breaking glass. This was just
south of Monroe on Washington Rd. and as they started entering they were
stabbed in the arm by the homeowner's son. Our WPB Police did catch the 2
suspects up near Dunkin Donuts.

Wanted you to know the following that Lila learned from the Police and
victims of this morning's neighborhood break-ins. We are doing a flyer that
will be passed out to make sure each household is aware. Here is a brief
version of the incident:
Early this a.m., someone slit the convertible top of the owner's vehicle at
333 Monceaux; took garage opener and took all power tools from garage.
Entered the home and took keys, a brown Coach handbag and a red plaid Coach
briefcase - both full so if you see or find in the street or swale, please
call the owners - Russell & Deb Glace at 833-7906. Perpetrators wore gloves;
homeowners were upstairs asleep when it happened; they have a couple dogs.
Upshot is if you hear something unusual in the middle of the day or night,
phone the Police. If you get up at 3:00 a.m. and your neighbor's garage door
is open and you know it shouldn't be, call the Police.
We're not dealing with your garden-variety person who rips you off and
leaves. These perpetrators drank from the refrigerator and tried to use a
bank card.
We all need to be alert as there was also a problem at 301 Westminster. We
all have to look out for each other.

This is good advice all the time - NOT just on this street!
Subject: Danger of smash and grab on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard
I promised my friend Cindy (a victim herself as of last Thursday, 1/15/04)
to pass along this information. It is apparently not an isolated incident
because she was contacted by the police yesterday for more information in
hopes of matching the identity of the "perpetrator" of a new incident just
yesterday (Thursday, 1/22/04) Here's what happened and how police suspect it
is being carried out:
At lunchtime last Thursday, my friend Cindy was driving west on Palm Beach
Lakes Blvd and stopped at the light at the bottom of the bridge -- I think
the intersection with Sapodilla. Her purse was on her front passenger seat.
Out of nowhere came a guy with some kind of "tool" and enough power to smash
the passenger window and grab her purse. Cindy assures me there is no time
or thought to protect your belongings when glass is flying and your senses
are desperately trying to figure out what has just occurred. Understandably,
she is still shaken from the incident. The police believe that someone is a
lookout from a "perch" high enough above to signal the guy on the street
that you are a good target. In this instance, there is at least one 2 or
3-story apartment building at the intersection. Just thought you should be
aware that some creepy crew is working our area and you shouldn't be the
next unsuspecting victim. Travel with your purse out of sight -- under your
seat is best, but anything is better than perched and ready for a quick grab
from the front seat.

Dear Friends; Just a word to put everybody on notice that Elaines car was
broken into last night at 334 Marlborough road. They attempted to steal the
car but despite breaking the ignition and steering column ,they settled for
some change and left us with an inoperable car. The two officers that
responded were real gentlemen and took fingerprints so hopefully we might
get lucky. Our car was parked in our driveway on an active street with both
a streetlight and motion light on so they were pretty ballsy.Officers
Palladino and Gueuvrez as mentioned before were very professional and nice.

On Sunday 11/4, at about 1:30 a.m. I heard 2 loud gunshots which sounded
like it came from around Greenwood/Roosevelt area. I called police and they
came right away, but don't know what if anything they found.
The next night, around 2:45 a.m. at the house behind me at 3215 So. Flagler
someone threw a full propane BBQ tank through the neighbor's SUV window.
The sound of gun shots in this neighborhood are becoming a weekly event.
Last night was the 3rd time this month I have heard them and usually around
1:30 in the morning on a weekend. Obviously there is a nutcase in the
neighborhood that likes to shoot off a gun, but frankly I'm getting a little
concerned.
I was talking to a neighbor who told me around Halloween, a 12 year old boy
who lives on So. Flagler near Monroe was approached by 2 Hispanic men
wanting money and punched him in the face several times. The mother came out
to chase them off and they started after her, but when they saw she was
using her cell phone, they ran away.

It was just brought to my attention that in addition to the break in
yesterday - a car was stolen last night from in front of the house located
at 3225 Vincent ( by Greenwood ) .
I have placed a very firm phone call to the Mayors office demanding more
Police patrols in our area and explaining that the residents of this area
are tired of being treated like second class citizens when it comes to
returns on our tax dollars when in fact we are one of the largest
residential tax bases in the WPB area. I will be contacting EL Cid
association as well as other neighborhood associations so we can unite and
get some well needed attention from City Hall. I also will be placing a call
to Kim Mitchell asking her to become more proactive in this situation.
I welcome your thoughts and ideas on how we can make our government more
accountable to us. In the interim, we all need to help protect our area,
watch your neighborhoods for suspicious cars, write down plate numbers and
call the police if something looks suspicious. Please keep me informed if
you hear of any other incidents. Thank you - Leslie Linder

Yesterday, 9/10/03, between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm our house was robbed. The
thieves stole jewelry (only the good stuff), digital camera, video camera,
cash and a credit card. They broke-in the back door by cutting and breaking
through the window panes. Then, ripped the security system off of the wall
and cut the phone lines.
Police and crime scene investigator came last night and took finger prints.
I don't expect any results but I'll let you know if they find anything.
Please inform the neighborhood of this incident and call me with any
questions or comments.
August 9,2003
a Burglary occurred on Monceaux and Flagler. Joe and Krista Marx had a
breakin on Friday, sometime after 11am. They popped out the window, cut
phone lines and security system and had plenty of time to sort through the
stuff they wanted. It seems they took mostly jewelry and were savvy enough
to take only the good things.

Have learned of a couple incidents in our area, plus one in El Cid:
El Cid - car window broken, nothing taken (similar to what happened to
Rhonda) and occurred the same night as Rhonda (Tues.)
In Prospect Park - two incidents where garages were broken into. In the
first, which happened over last weekend, some equipment was taken. In the
second, security alarm on garage scared off intruder so nothing is reported
missing.
Keep in mind that there should be nothing left in cars that would tempt
someone to break in such as cell phones, change, laptops, etc. Also, don't
leave any yard equipment, bicycles or toys out that would be tempting to a
passerby.
June 1,2003
3109 Washington Road. Back window in SUV parked in driveway was smashed last
night. Barking dog scared away the intruder. A police report was filed
today.
3115 Washington Road. Bicycle was stolen sometime last week. Not known if a
police report was filed.
January 17,2003
a Burglary occurred at 312 Monceaux Road. The case was handled by Off. S.
Johnson. The scene was processed by CSI Fernandes.
On 1/28/03 I was advised that B/M Serge Alexis DOB 05/19/86 was identified
through AFIS to the latents from the scene.
On 1/24/03 Alexis and several of his pals were arrested at 2800 Georgia
after a chase. The vehicle they were in was car jacked earlier in the
county. See case 03-002178. Alexis did manage to get out of jail even though
it was his third such arrest. His record indicates he was only charged with
Trespass in Conveyance. Alexis was taken into custody today when he arrived
to see his probation officer. This case will be direct filed as Alexis has
not been adjudicated as an Adult yet.
After meeting Mr. Alexis it is obvious he should not be on the street.
